Chapter 8 - 3 Nutrient Relations : Nitrogen
نویسنده
چکیده
Nitrogen is available in many forms. The most abundant of these, N2 gas, cannot be used by plants or animals and must be converted by Cyanobacteria or bacteria before plants can use it. Animals can only obtain it by eating other organisms that have already placed the N into amino acids. Other forms of N that plants can absorb include ammonium (NH4), nitrite (NO2), nitrate (NO3 ), and organic forms such as amino acids and urea. As we shall soon see, not all plants have the same ability to use these forms and some are toxic to most taxa.

Relationship between nutrients and phytoplankton biomass based on chlorophyll prediction model in Zribar Lake of Kurdestan, a case study
Zaribar Lake is a little shallow lake in Kurdistan province of Iran and it is faced to eutrophication. The study of phytoplankton biomass-nutrient relations is important in eutrophication management and there are many empirical models to predict phytoplankton biomass (chlorophyll a) based on nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorous) amounts in the lake. Evaluation of these empirical models and compar...
متن کاملNutrient Cycling in Forests of the Pacific Northwest
Ecosystem analysis has established nutrient cycling as an important area of ecology involving biological, chemical, and geological interactions. Studying the flow of elements through ecosystems provides us with a tool for understanding the functioning of ecosystems. For example, if an ecosystem component has a rapid flux of elements through it, or if it stores large amounts of an element, that ...

متن کاملRelating management practices and nutrient export in agricultural watersheds of the United States.
Relations between riverine export (load) of total nitrogen (N) and total phosphorus (P) from 133 large agricultural watersheds in the United States and factors affecting nutrient transport were evaluated using empirical regression models. After controlling for anthropogenic inputs and other landscape factors affecting nutrient transport-such as runoff, precipitation, slope, number of reservoirs...
